9 Weeks Have Passed – Where Are You?

I have a magnet on my desk that reads:

Persistence is a big fancy word for “never giving up.” Determination is just another way of saying “no ifs, ands, or buts.” Courage is about having the guts to do what needs to be done

I wanted to share that with you because it’s a daily reminder to myself that it takes a high level person to start, manage, grow and succeed in business.

This post is about what it takes to truly succeed in business. The thoughts are from my experiences alone. Perhaps you’ll agree or perhaps not. Either way, what is important is the space from which we all create from.

If you’ve seen my video about the Space for Action, then you know that I believe we should seek out what actions we can do right now, this very moment, to move forward with our goals.

It’s a totally new concept in “goal-setting” techniques and one that I’ve grown to love because it produces results for me.

So I ask you… what have you done to move your business forward since I produced that video 9 weeks ago?

This isn’t about making you feel bad or that you did something wrong. I’m not a fan of that type of down-talk!

It’s about having an open discussion about what it really takes to succeed in business. And since you seem to be someone that is interested in business growth and truly succeeding over all with your life… it seems like a good question to ask.

It helps to realign us with our ultimate goal – a successful business.

So no negativity here… nothing is wrong. No one is bad :)   Just a simple question to realign our thought process with our goal.

Moving on…

Do you have kids? Then you know that time flies by. One day they are little toddlers running around and driving us nuts… and the next day they are moving into their college dorm room.

We all know that time flies by. It’s a part of life. And what ends up happening to most of us is a regret that we didn’t do all we wanted to or we didn’t do it “how” we wanted to. If we could only go back and change things…

I bring up the topic of time flying by because as small business owners we tend to get caught up in our own little world.

Small business owners tend to have more stress, work longer hours, get paid less, and fail at their goal more than an employee working at some corporation.

In the end, you’re either persistent, determined and courageous or you’re not.

This isn’t some subtle sales copy technique to get you to do something. This is just an open conversation that I have with myself and my staff on an ongoing basis.

I look at the areas in my business that I want to improve upon, I write out my goals, and then I list out the actions needed to reach each goal. I then pick what I can do right now, in this moment, to move forward with one or more of the actions.

Doing this means I am continually moving forward. I am so far ahead of where I was 9 weeks ago that it’s staggering. I’ve accomplished so much. I’ve run advertising, I’ve set up a split-test for my new squeeze page, I’ve talked with tons of fitness professionals about their website, I’ve signed up new clients, I’ve taken a 12-day vacation, I’ve created my next project, I’ve maintained contact with you once or twice a week, I created a new Facebook page, I’ve talked with joint venture partners, I’ve taken and completed an 8-week “Live Your Best Life” course, I’ve read 4 books, I’ve found sponsors for my local softball team and literally tons more.

So the question “What have you done in the past 9 weeks to forward your business” is only meant as a starter topic for you. I hope it inspires you to take persistent, determined and courageous actions.

You have the ultimate responsibility of growing your business. A stagnant business is a dead business. Don’t let time fly by without actively taking a role in the success of your business.

Live life right now. Become inspired right now. Take action right now! No regrets!

Be Your Own Hero!

Hey Lynn, you don’t know me but I think that this post was so inspiring that it gave me a kick in the @$$ to get me back in gear. See I just came from my CPA and I have some issues that I must take care of ASAP! Being your own boss ain’t fun right now, it’s just owning your own job! That’s got to change and I have the resources to make that happen, I just need to use them.

I’m in the process of re-organizing my personal training business. I’ve tried all kinds of business models only to come back to training my clients myself… but now I train more clients at the same time. So now I can make up to $300 per training hour. But that’s the good part, the bad part is not having enough Time-Freedom! Boy do I need a vacation NOW! … but I can’t because I over-booked myself with more new clients.

I know, I know, … I should hire an assistant, but it seems like no one does it the way I want them to! I also know that, that is B.S., I just haven’t found the right person. Now that I have let off some steam, I’m going to buckle down and look for some help so that I can get that Time-Freedom that I need!

Lynn I’m open for your suggestions.

    Kenny

Sounds like you know what advice I would give. You listed each challenge and then a solution :) Sounds like your first order of business is finding a phenomenal trainer that you can trust and depend on. Then start removing yourself from training all the time. I’d also look into a great admin assistant that can do more than answer telephones and greet customers. This person needs to help you run your business and more importantly GROW your business while you’re training and finding new trainers. Having a 30-minute daily meeting with your admin assistant would be great because you can give her tasks to do and things to learn about and study (the more she knows about business and the prospect pipeline I talk about… the better for you). Once she has a solid base… she can start managing follow up sequences, managing the website posts, etc.

Lynn, we have been customers of yours for a while now and even thou you guys are the corner stone to our website and design we still truly find the video clips and blog posts very helpful. When watching your clips I still can find great tips and building blocks that can help us improve even what we already have on top of a great website. Just the other day I got a call from a lady that opted in on a free consult form on our site.

When I spoke with her she said that she researched personal trainers in Charlotte very intensely and every time she put in something about trainers in Charlotte my website would be one of the ones popping up. After several days of searching she had to see who we were and last but not least hire me as her trainer because our site was everywhere.

I laughed when she said that but silently thinking to myself “What Great Power It Is To Have An Awesome Website.” Connecting with this new customer would not have been possible without such a great website that you and your team has helped us build over the years.

We still have lots of work to do here at Healing Strength Personal Training but I honestly believe that this has been the best investment yet that we have made for our business. Now several years later I know we can continue to count on you as our webmaster to bring us the newest and hottest tips that are out there in the web world. Thanks again!

Can I use your comment as a testimonial? Your story is exactly what I talk about in my videos and posts. A website is so much more than just a website. It positions you as an expert – the lady just had to find out who you were because you were all over the search listings! It positions your offers so those leads that are warm or hot can take action – she filled in an opt in form. She wants to work with you because she already views you as the top dog in your area and she trusts you! Good work, Kennett. I always love hearing from you.

Lynn you hit nail on the head ! You are so right about time flying by. I have a 2 year old and it seems like yesterday he was born. Where does it go so fast. My motto for my company( workoutanimal.com) is CHALLENGE YOURSELF…AND THEN CONQUER YOURSELF ! Don’t be the person we have all seen who has gotten old and is living with tons of regret about not accomplishing what they knew they could have. Thanks Lynn you stirred some emotions in me with this post.

Right on. Challenging and conquering yourself is all about removing the fear so you can get the life and business of your dreams. Without that challenge and the persistent and determined forward movement… well life flies by :)
